About me

Hi. I’m Louise, an authorised and registered celebrant living on the outskirts of Edinburgh, near the Forth Bridges. I live with my husband Derek, my two young daughters Ailsa (11) and Iona (8), and our cat Domino.

I trained as a Celebrant with the Humanist Society Scotland in 2008, and qualified in early 2009. I am delighted to be able to conduct all types of ceremonies for couples and families:

  • Legal wedding ceremonies in Scotland
  • Civil partnership ceremonies
  • Renewals of vows
  • Funerals and memorial ceremonies (cremation and graveside)
  • Naming ceremonies (babies, adoptions, step-children, gender identity)
Humanism wasn’t something I knew much about until I attended a funeral in 2004 and found it a very personal and uplifting celebration of a friend’s life.

Then, when it came time to plan our own wedding back in 2007, we both knew that we wanted something really special and personal. We didn't want religion in our wedding but we didn't want a registry office either. A bit of research showed that Humanist Weddings in Scotland were legal and the description just seemed to fit perfectly with what we both believe.

It was fantastic - just what we had both hoped for. In the September, Derek and I were married by an HSS celebrant at Shieldhill Castle in Biggar. I found the experience so interesting and rewarding that I decided I wanted to be able to help others celebrate the major events in their lives and applied to become a Celebrant.

As well as my celebrant role, I work as a marketing manager and as a councillor for Edinburgh. This does affect my availability and I’m not usually able to conduct ceremonies during the day on Monday - Thursday, except on request.
