What costs are involved?

I appreciate that budgeting for your ceremony is extremely important (especially with weddings which are often the most money we spend on a single day in our lives) . It’s therefore essential to know all the costs up front.

Our fees are guided by the Humanist Society of Scotland:

Weddings
Our fee for a wedding is £475. A reduced fee can be available for weekdays or due to personal circumstances, and you should feel free to raise any questions around this with me directly.
When you know your date, you simply 'secure your date' with the Humanist Society for £85, and then when you confirm me as your celebrant, I'll ask for a further £65 deposit. That all comes off your total, leaving £325 balance to pay plus any travel expenses (see below). That's not due until the month before your wedding.

Fees are currently £475
The total deposit due at booking is £150
Balance of £325 is due one month before

Any other costs for your ceremony?
- If you want a wedding rehearsal.
- Travel expenses & reimbursements.
- Applying for a marriage 'license' (or 'schedule' to call it by its proper name)

See further details on each of these below...

Rehearsals
While it's not necessary to have a rehearsal, I understand that some couples feel better having an opportunity to walk through the ceremony before the big day. If you're not sure whether this is something you'd like to do, then please just ask and we can talk through if it would give you any benefit/peace of mind.

Rehearsal fee is £90 + travel

Travel expenses
These are charged at the Govt set rate of 45p per mile and apply to the return journey to your venue. It would also apply to any rehearsal.

If there are any additional travel fees (such as road tolls, parking charges or boat fees) then these would need to be highlighted at the time of booking and will be applied at cost rate.

Please note: I don't charge any travel for weddings/rehearsals in the following locations - Kirkliston, South Queensferry, Dalmeny, Ratho Station, Newbridge. This includes venues such as Dundas Castle, Norton House Hotel, Orocco Pier, Carlowrie Castle.

Marriage License
Regardless of who you arrange to marry you, you will need to apply for your marriage schedule (or marriage license as it's commonly referred to). This involves a form submitted to the Registrar General, and they require a fee for this.

Registrar fee for marriage license is currently around £80-100 per couple
